Damage Assessment
Damage assessment is the process emergency management teams use to evaluate how much harm has been done to buildings, infrastructure, and communities after a disaster like a storm, flood, or tornado. It helps us understand the extent of the damage, prioritize response efforts, and determine what kind of help—like financial assistance or repairs—might be needed. This information is also shared with state and federal agencies to support disaster declarations and recovery funding.
This page connects Illinois residents to tools and resources to help them recover after a disaster. When damage assessment surveys are active, they will be posted here.
Understanding Disaster Recovery
Disaster recovery is a coordinated effort among local, state, and federal partners to help individuals and communities rebuild after emergencies. The Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security (IEMA-OHS) works with these partners to assess damage, provide information on assistance, and support long-term recovery.
